In addition to normal business, Andy Forrester gave a report of his attendance at the 82nd Airborne Division Association National Convention held in Indianapolis, Indiana, the week of the 13-17 August 2013. The main news out of national is that they are facing financial challenges and having to downsize their staff.
One item that was reported was the cost of mailing the quarterly Paraglide magazine. It costs $26,000 per year to mail the Paraglide. We passed a resolution as a chapter that the Paraglide print an opt out option for receiving the magazine via the internet rather than having it physically mailed to the member. This measure alone would save the national office a great deal in postal costs associated with the Paraglide.
Also, the chapter approved our treasurer Roger Taylor to obtain a debit card because most businesses will not accept a desk check from our bank.
One important item on the agenda was the number of our members who are past due in renewing their chapter memberships. There seems to be a wide discrepancy between what Roger Taylor has as a current membership list and what national has. Vic Irvin will contact several of our ROTC members who need to renew. Roger Taylor will follow up with the remainder.
